President Trump, during an interview with Lester Holt, made an admission that he had three separate conversations with former director of the FBI James Comey. The actual dates of those conversations aren’t immediately clear. Two of those conversation were over the phone, and one was during a dinner. According to Trump the dinner was at the request of Director James Comey. At some point during the dinner Trump asked Comey whether or not he [Trump] was the subject of an active investigation, to which Comey replied “no”- according to Trump. Although Trumps actions weren’t necessarily illegal they are in fact inappropriate given the longstanding protocol which dictates the FBI director is prohibited from having direct communication with the president of the united states regarding the status of an active investigation.
