Mayor-Elect Eric Adams Spoke to a well of supporters and members of the press to deliver a message of unity and solidarity. Adams is poised to make history being New York’s second black elected mayor. The first was David Dinkins. Adams made a moving speech just before he cast his vote for mayor. Adams paid tribute to his mother as he recounted the first time she bought him into the voting booth. When asked how many votes he needed to win, Adams’ replied. “I’m not supposed to be standing here, we’ve won already.”
