Rapper Lil Durk recently performed at Howard University homecoming. His set was supposed to last for approximately 12 minutes. However, Lil Durk purportedly cut his set short and walked off the stage because he wasn’t feeling the vibe. Under the law, if an Artist agrees to perform a musical set for a particular length of time and fails to do so for reasons not permitted under the terms of the contract, then that artist is legally liable for any damages resulting from that breach.
Here, Lil Dirk had agreed to perform for 12 minutes, and a video clip shows Lil Durk acknowledging his obligation to perform additional songs, yet declined to do so. Lil Durk stated, in gist his reason for discontinuing his preform was because “I’m not feeling the vibe.” The fact that Lil Durk “wasn’t feeling the vibe” of the crowd would not excuse his performance of the terms of his contract. And therefore, Lil Durk may be liable for damages if the Homecoming promoter were to pursue legal action.
