Newark’s Mayor Ras Baraka exercised his musical prowess In expressing outrage over the horrific killing of George Floyd by Minnesota police officers Derek Chauvin, J. Alexander Kueng, Thomas Lane and Tou Thao. Rather than deliver a traditional speech Mayor Barack opted instead to deliver a spoken words poem with musical accompaniments reverberating a resounding message of resolve , pride and dignity cloaked in the rhetorical question of what we want . The genius of the songs title “what we want ” lies in the fact it’s echoes the sentiment of former president John F. Kennedy’s famous quote which says “ ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country.” Simply put, the question of what we want is moot ,because getting want you want is easy provided you’re willing to make the necessary sacrifice.
